Horseide in Lofoten

The sandy beach at Horseide is one of the more impressive among Lofoten’s many beaches.

But even more impressive is that in the old days, people lived out here, who lived off agriculture and home fishing when the weather rarely allowed it.

The sandbanks outside Horseide have been known for good deposits of flounder since ancient times. And for the record – Horseide is located on the outer side of Lofoten, i.e. the part of Lofoten that faces north and west. The name supposedly originated from the male name Hårek.
