This happened as early as 1906. The telegraph was developed as early as 1861, with Sørvågen as the terminus. Why? And where were these signals sent? To which ship did the same station send wireless messages in 1908? The Telecom Museum at Sørvågen gives you the answers to these and many other questions. The museum has a rich, exciting collection of newer and older objects related to the theme. See our exhibition of mobile phones, compare your own with the 1973 edition – it’s quite a difference!
In the telecommunications museum there are beautiful exhibitions that appeal to many age groups and interests. The information is rich, visual and fun. There are not only telephones and old switchboards, but also good explanations of why Lofoten and Sørvågen were among the first to use modern technology.
Sørvågen Radio – a telecommunications museum is located in the telecommunications building from 1914, a large, white wooden house just off the E10.
