Lofotr Viking Museum

Join us 1000 years back in time – meet the Vikings, step into the largest longhouse found from the Viking Age – in the whole world. Feel the smell of tar and fire. Study beautiful craftsmanship and architecture.

In the summer, you can sail and row Viking ships, try your hand at axe throwing and archery (15.06 – 15.08), meet the craftsmen and see animals of old breeds on pastures around the chieftain’s house. All year round, you can join the Viking feast – a party in the Viking way! Archaeological exhibitions with unique objects and film are also included.

At Borg in Lofoten, archaeologists have excavated the largest longhouse found from the Viking Age. The chieftain’s house has been reconstructed in full size, a full 83 meters long. By the pollen/sea is the Viking ship, the smithy and other reconstructions. Every year in August, more than 100 Vikings meet for a market, competition and play at the annual Viking festival. Join us on a journey more than 1000 years back in time!

Party the Viking way

Every evening, the housewife and the chieftain invite you to a party in the Viking way, Viking feast! And, in the summer, you can buy wonderful, tasty and piping hot lamb broth that you can enjoy in the Chieftain’s House. Groups can pre-order both this and other types of meals, all year round.

Practical

In the exhibitions, you will be provided with modern audio guides (choose from 6 languages). In the chieftain’s house, you are welcome to touch objects, try on helmet and chain mail and of course talk to the Vikings who are present. The children are particularly happy in the living museum. In the summer, there are extra many activities.
