Stamsund is one of the biggest fishing villages in Lofoten.

Industrial activity there is largely linked to fishing, and Nordland Havfiske AS (Ltd.) is Norway’s major trawler company. The fish processing company, Aker Seafoods J.M Johansen, is the main source of employment in the fishing village.

Tourism has also gained a foothold in Stamsund and several rorbu cabin camps and hotels provide overnight accommodation. The converted quayside warehouse, Skjærbrygga, emerges today as a pearl of a restaurant and a natural focal point in Stamsund.

Annonse

Cultural life in Stamsund is abundant and includes several theatres and activities in conjunction with them. Stamsund International Theatre Festival has gradually become a well-established festival and a meeting place for actors and dramatic artists from all over the world.

When it comes to communications, Stamsund is situated in the heart of Lofoten and is therefore an excellent starting point for holidays in the archipelago. Together with Svolvær, Stamsund is also an important port of call for the Coastal Voyage vessels that also offer daily adventure tours in large parts of Lofoten.
