Mortsund is an idyllic fishing village facing south on Vestvågøya, right in the heart of Lofoten.
Initially, the settlement was on the islands of Brandsholmen and Gullholmen. The sea tied communities together while the mountains created distance. After the road to Mortsund was completed in early 1920's, the fishing village developed rapidly. Until a few years ago, Mortsund had its own post office with its own zip code, but it's now using the same postal code as Leknes.
