A new autumn means a new edition of the Lofoten Yearbook. The tradition of publishing a yearbook that covers the entire Lofoten region is still going strong. The book has been on sale for a month already, and most of the print run is sold before Christmas, which suggests that the book is a popular Christmas gift.
– “In this edition, we have also tried to find a good mix of content and images that bridge the gap between past and present,” says editor and publisher Magnus Eilertsen (36). Eilertsen is originally from Værøy, but now lives with his family in Tromsø.
As usual, the Lofoten Yearbook is richly illustrated with photos, and the layout is tailored for the best possible reading experience. The vision of the yearbook is to convey relevant local history into our hypermodern times. Through 12 articles covering all the municipalities in Lofoten, the reader gets to meet the people, nature and culture that characterize this unique archipelago in the ocean gap.
The book is the twelfth publication from Magnus Eilertsen under his own imprint. So far, the publisher has focused on publishing local history books.
– It’s almost like I’ve been called to do publishing in Northern Norway, and I’m looking forward to several exciting publications in the years to come. Producing books is very rewarding. Not least, it’s a privilege to be able to create a book that connects the whole of Lofoten as a cultural and historical region – and in this way make a small contribution to building local identity and belonging,” concludes Magnus Eilertsen.
The yearbook for Lofoten 2023 is published by Eilertsen Forlag, which has also been responsible for the popular publication of “Old words and expressions from Lofoten”.
