Storytime for children at the Lofotr Viking Museum

Are you wondering what life on a farm in the Viking Age might have been like? Does archeology sound exciting? – Take the trip to the Lofotr Viking Museum.

Lofotr Viking Museum welcomes you to an extra fun Saturday 30 September for both children and adults.

Lofotr wants to present archaeological research on Viking Age life and values to children. Unn Pedersen is an experienced research mediator. Among other things, she has written three children’s books about the Viking Age and has written many articles about the Viking Age on the website Norgeshistorie.no. In the storytelling session, she will present brand new research on the Viking Age to children and young people, a target group that often has to wait the longest for the latest news from the past. As a researcher, she is keen to highlight that knowledge about the Viking Age is based on research and that new archaeological discoveries and new thoughts, from children and adults, contribute to changing knowledge. We want to include all her children’s books, to give an overview of the following theme: The farm, the town, graves and general archaeology.

The storytelling session will take place in the museum’s longhouse. The long house has been reconstructed after an archaeological find here at Borg, of the longest house we know from the Viking Age. The reconstruction is set up approx. 50 m away from the house’s original location, and the longhouse is authentically furnished. This will create a nice setting for the story time.

The storytelling session should give children the opportunity to reflect on values (a different way of living, a different imaginary world, a different way of being a child). We also invite you to a small Viking craft session. Together with our craftsmen, the children can make 1-2 fine Viking items. The event will be suitable for children aged approx. 6-12 years, adults are of course welcome – and feel free to bring younger siblings and grandparents too.

The museum is of course open as usual with exhibitions and the long house open. The museum shop is open and so is the museum cafe, for the occasion.
