Out of autofocus in Skrova!

The weekend 29-30 October, it’s all about technique when Made by Skrova invites you to a photography course in beautiful surroundings on the whaling and photography island of Skrova. For two days you will learn to understand light and composition, technical camera details and life without autofocus with Geir Nøtnes as your guide.

– The goal is to achieve the result that you want, not just what the camera manufacturer has as a setting for the auto function, say Ritha Johansen and Hilde Linchausen Blom in Made by Skrova, who organize the course.

Technique and practice

On the course, the participants get the opportunity to do something with the setting that many people often keep on their camera, and during two active days the course participants will learn and understand composition, aperture, shutter speed, ISO and different light measurement methods. Tasks are given that show what different combinations give as a result. So when the northern lights season is in full swing, there are good opportunities to use the knowledge you have gained during the course, she continues.

Course leader

Svolvær photographer Geir Nøtnes will lead the participants through the course. He grew up in Skrova and has been passionate about photography since he got his first Kodak Instamatic at the age of seven. Geir has had several solo exhibitions and has held a number of photography courses around Lofoten.

Skrova is often referred to as Lofoten’s Hawaii, this because the small island in the middle of the Vestfjord has the least rainfall and the most hours of sunshine in the whole of Lofoten.

Ritha concludes by saying that the island is a fantastic place when it comes to finding good photo subjects. All the photo exhibitions Skrova Outdoor Photo Spot SOPS has mounted along the quay and road, in addition to Tunnelsyn on Kuholmen, are alone worth the trip over Hølla. Skrova has its own good atmosphere, and hospitality is a matter of course in the small community half an hour’s ferry ride from Svolvær.
