Maria Terese Karlsen and Andrea Milde Øhrn will open Min Yoga Lofoten in April 2018.
It will be a yoga center with both weekly classes, courses and various events throughout the year. Min Yoga Lofoten appeals to both locals and visitors with both a focus on establishing everyday offers and exciting events in spectacular surroundings.
Maria comes from having worked as a project manager for The Arctic Triple in Lofoten, but will now work full-time building up the company and be the general manager.
– We have both missed a yoga center and when the opportunity was there, we just had to do this, says Maria.
Andrea will defend her doctorate in population health in March and will start specializing as a doctor at Lofoten Hospital. Andrea will teach at the center and will also have an important role in the center’s goal of using yoga as a health-promoting tool.
– We believe the combination of the local market and the fact that we are a major tourism destination gives us a good basis for establishing Min Yoga Lofoten, says Andrea.
Together with him, Min Yoga Lofoten has gained a central resource in yoga in the region. Siri B. Aareskjold will be subject supervisor and a main resource on special courses. In addition, they will collaborate with a number of resources in the field of yoga both in Lofoten, Norway and internationally.
Min Yoga Lofoten will be located in what was the Vågan Art Center on Svinøya, and will have a large and airy hall in addition to a lounge with space for a small yoga shop.
– Yoga is for everyone and we look forward to establishing a good and inclusive place for both experienced and beginners, says Andrea.
Until the opening of the centre, Min Yoga Lofoten will have pop-up yoga at Scandic Hotel Svolvær a few days a week, and the founders have many other exciting pop-up locations in the works.
– We want to spread the joy of yoga throughout our island kingdom, and are looking forward to all the opportunities to practice both in the center and in spectacular surroundings, says Maria.
