Åpning av nye Galleri Lofotens Hus

Opening of the new Galleri Lofotens Hus

After several new major changes and renovations, the well-known gallery in Henningsvær officially opens its doors at 17:00 on Saturday 07 July.

The new Galleri Lofotens Hus has its own restaurant, a remodeled gallery shop, a new exhibition with a focus on cod, and a significant technical upgrade of the cinema hall. Lofoten Safari, which is also located in the building, also offers nature experiences both on water and on land.

The gallery was established by Frank A. Jenssen in 1990. In the summer of 2017, writer, photographer, journalist and art collector Frank A. Jenssen passed away. Today, it is children Ida and Gisle Malnes who continue to run one of Lofoten’s biggest attractions.

A gallery with a focus on food, art and culture.

– We believe that food, art and culture are connected. In the large building, which has three floors with a gallery, it will be good to be able to sit down and have something to drink and eat, says Ida Malnes.

Opening on Saturday

During the opening on Saturday, blues musician Kjell Andreassen will play songs written by Frank A. Jenssen. These are songs from Jenssen’s time in the band Tysfjord Sang Sement, which had its heyday in the late 1970s.

– The food during the opening is also intended to be closely linked to the cod exhibition, says a smiling Ida.

The new restaurant will be managed by the Swedish chef Johan Petrini, and will have a strong focus on local ingredients.

– The restaurant targets both guests in the gallery and guests who simply want something to eat. At the same time, we want to target conferences, weddings and other events that want a special experience in Henningsvær, says Gisle Malnes.
