Lofotr Vikingfestival 2017

From 9 to 13 August 2017, the annual Viking Festival is organized at the Lofotr Viking Museum with a flame show and lots of fun for the children.

Among the news this year are more and more activities for children, a comeback for the popular duo Fenja and Menja, the Swedish storyteller Jerker Fahlström, and a brand new fighter show.

For a full 5 days until the end, Vikings from many countries meet at Borg in Lofoten.

The Vikings specialize in both activities and crafts related to the Viking Age, including archery, juggling, leather work, blacksmithing and textile work. Festival guests can see these activities and, not least, participate in them themselves.

Activities for children

This year’s festival has brought in Ben Clarke all the way from England. At home in the island kingdom, Ben runs a company that travels around schools and has Viking days for the children. He has many fun activities in store, and will help make this year’s festival one the children will not soon forget.

In addition, the museum’s usual activities are open, and there will be, among other things, an archery competition for the children, as well as Fenja and Menja’s popular Viking trail and performances, and Kjell Braathen’s wonderful commitment and storytelling pleasure in his lecture about music in the Viking Age.

Workshops and courses for adults.

There will be a number of courses and workshops throughout the festival, by the skilled textile and handicraft mediator Kristin Nordeng from Ravn Formidling.

Brand new fighter show.

Gruppa Skaltadal is also presenting a completely new performance this year. This will be a different, spectacular and fun fighter show, which this year centers around the stories of the infamous chieftain Raud den Rame from Salten.

Flammeshow.

After dark, the Trudr jøglertrupp holds its spectacular flame show outside Høvdinghuset. This happens on Friday at 23:00 precisely.

Jerker Fahlström.

Jerker is a Swedish actor, director and storyteller of a rare caliber, and we are happy and proud that he is making the trip to our festival this year. With his performance “Om guder, helter og småfolk” he will enchant the audience, and draw them into his world, 1000 years back in time.

The festival organizers welcome you to 5 days filled with markets, concerts, theatre, courses, games and lots of fun for everyone!
