Kite gathering in Skrova

The weekend 21.-23. In October, several kiters will come to test the waters around Skrova.

Kiters from Trondheim, Mosjøen, Andøya, Tromsø, Alta, Kabelvåg and Svolvær will hold a kite gathering and try out Skrova as a kite spot. Liz Rekve from Ny Giv, together with Henrik Jørgensen, who lives in Svolvær, is directing this weekend.

– The idea is simple, we meet, kite and also focus on feedback about what is good and what is complicated with the kite waters. We drive with drones, gopro cameras and hand-held cameras to get the maximum amount of footage of the spot, says Henrik Jørgensen, who is in charge of filming.

It is far into autumn and both autumn storms and freezing water can be expected.

– Yes, it has been a prerequisite, says Liz Rekve. She has held similar kite gatherings in Berlevåg with the Barents Sea right in. – We’re not Hawaii, even if it’s just as beautiful and just as beautiful beaches, but we want it to be a bit of a challenge for the kiters, because they like that.

– We have asked the Rescue Association for assistance, and they are decent guys. Outside Berlevåg, it was also a prerequisite to be able to drive a little hard in bad weather. Many kiters would like to have a bit of a rough time when they are out, but then it is important that we know we can get them out of the water quickly if things go badly.

The rigging will take place in Hatvika in Skrova, and it will mainly be in this area that the kiters will try, but wind and weather conditions are the most important.

– It’s fun to follow kiting, and it’s great if people come, but rigging, lines and often a bit of an intense start-up mean that it’s not super child-friendly. But it’s exciting to follow along, so please bring binoculars and a good camera lens. There will be no test flying and test kiting for the public this time – we will possibly wait for the next gathering, Henrik Jørgensen tells Lofoten.com.
