Previously, the place had been run as a trading and inn by several owners, among them Caspar Fredrik Lorch (1816-1837) in Storvågan near Kabelvåg is mentioned as one of the first.
Ole Ellingsen lived in Tengelfjord while he ran the place. There are also his vessels, the two yachts we see in the picture. We further see the Gjestgivergården with a window facing the sea, behind this mortuary. Between the houses the old toilet and a timber tub from a former pier. The pier is on two floors with an elevator device.
Behind this is the barn and the flagpole. At the top left, the summer barn. To the left of the inn is the vegetable garden. Two of Ole’s sons – Johan and Hans, took over the place – and it was divided between these two brothers. In 1902, the inn and the barge were demolished. The materials were divided and two new houses were erected.
Today, idyllic Svartsund is used as a holiday and leisure resort, and is still owned by descendants of the Ellingsen family. We do not know who took this picture.
