Værøy
Beautiful Værøy is the second smallest of the Lofoten municipalities. The mountains on Værøy have soft elongated lines and lie like an inviting curved embankment against the open sea outside.
The population has mainly settled in two villages on Værøy: Nordland and Sørland – of which 90% live in the village of Sørland. The road network on Værøy consists of 22 km of paved road that is great for cycling trips.
One of the largest villages, Måstad, was abandoned after the war and is today a popular excursion destination. It is from this impassable hamlet that the puffin dog originates.
Værøy is best known for the bird cliffs on the outer side of the Måstad peninsula. There are large colonies of most seabirds here. In the so-called puffin ura, thousands of puffins nest.
Værøy has a primary and secondary school, a health centre, a restaurant, a bar and a grocery store with a post office.
