Stamsund: The largest fishing industry port in Lofoten

Stamsund is one of the largest fishing villages in Lofoten.

The business community in Stamsund is largely linked to fishing and fish processing. Nordland Havfiske is Norway’s largest trawler company. Aker Seafoods J.M. Johansen’s fish processing company is the largest workplace in the fishing village.

Tourism has also gained a foothold in Stamsund. Rorbu facilities and hostels in the weather provide opportunities for accommodation. In recent years, the Skjærbrygga jetty with its services has emerged as a natural centerpiece.

Stamsund has a rich cultural life where several theater companies and the activities around them are central. Stamsund International Theatre Festival has gradually become a well-established festival and a meeting place for performing artists from all over the world.

In terms of communications, Stamsund is located in the middle of Lofoten and is therefore an excellent starting point for a holiday in Lofoten. For Hurtigruta, Stamsund is an important port of call which, together with Svolvær, provides opportunities for daily adventure trips in large parts of Lofoten.
