For the most part Lofoten consists of steep, precipitous mountains, and at first look conditions may seem poorly suited to skiing. But the truth is, Lofoten does in fact offer great scope for it.

You can climb a number of mountains that offer spectacular downhill skiing, or choose areas with gentle slopes and family-friendly terrain.

The season normally lasts from mid January to late May. In Raftsundet it is possible to go skiing well into June.

In Stamsund and Svolvær there are alpine skiing resorts, and there is also a number of illuminated skiing trails in Lofoten.
