Lofoten is renowned for the Lofoten Fishery and the Norwegian Arctic cod, but it is so much more to those who love fishing. Here you will find excellent scope for fishing a number of different species, both at sea and in the mountains.
There are plenty of adventure providers in Lofoten that arrange organised deep-sea fishing trips on both big and small boats. The boats are equipped with all the fishing tackle you will need for the trip.
If you would prefer to go out to sea on your own, a number of the overnight accommodations rent out boats of various shapes and sizes. Boat rental companies also normally rent out safety gear and fishing tackle.
If you want to go fly-fishing, or fish with worms or lures in lakes and rivers, Lofoten has a lot to offer. The commonest freshwater species in Lofoten are trout and char, but salmon can also be caught in some of the rivers.
Lofoten also offers plenty of scope for fishing from the rocks and from the many bridges that link the islands together. In the winter, you can actually stand on the rocks and fish lovely, big Lofoten cod.
Fishing is also an exciting activity for children. The fish caught need not be too big to be the memory of a lifetime for those who themselves are small. At many of the overnight accommodations, children can revel in fish that swim right below them along the quayside.
