The waters around Lofoten are sheltered and full of isles and skerries, and in many places they offer perfect conditions for kayaking.
Svellingan is particularly suitable with its several hundred isles and skerries, narrow straits and white, sandy beaches. Raftsundet is another area worth looking into.
The inner coast of Lofoten, along the Lofoten Wall, also offers excellent conditions, but visitors should note that the waters are open towards the southwest and the Atlantic, where at times conditions may be extreme with heavy seas and strong currents. Those wishing to paddle in open waters should therefore plan carefully and show the utmost caution. The Lofoten weather can change in a very short period of time.
A number of businesses rent out kayaks and canoes and some also arrange kayak courses for both beginners and more proficient paddlers.
